Matching colors to your style or theme is important as well. You don't want to find yourself going after a Beach theme and having to use reds and purples for your walls. It just won't work.

A. Wood Tones

Wood tones work well with many themes and styles. Adding light wood and natural wood tones to a beach theme, for example, will really bring out the nautical elements in the room.
Wood also works very well in contemporary and traditional styles. The furniture can incorporate the wood tones in either dark woods like cherry or oak, or lighter woods like pine. It all depends on your desires and how you plan to carry out the theme in the room.

D. Dark Colors

This isn't to say it can't be done. Rustic and Modern styles utilize dark colors in walls and accents very well without minimizing the room appearance. As long as you use the right accents and enough lighting to counteract the darker shades, you can pull it off.

When designing a guest bedroom, you can't overlook the details. Ceiling fans and chairs are just as much a part of the ambiance of the room as the bed is. Giving the guest an option to do more than just sleep in the room makes the room inviting and comforting.
You will want to provide nightstands, lamps and enough overhead light as possible. You never know what your guests may need, and the best option is to give them a variety.
Track lighting is a nice option, especially when you can use a dimmer switch to control them. Providing enough light to get to the bed to turn on the lamp will prevent bumps and bruises in the dark.
